re: Japanese yellow sauce - possibly mustard sauce
Misc.My guess is that is was a mustard sauce made with powderd asian mustard, soy mirin and bonita stock {dashi} and a little sugar. If it was this sauce it should have been thin runny and served at room temp, not spicy and not sweet,and usually served with a Japanese dish called natto, that is a fermented bean food. There are websites dedicated to natto or nato that could lead you in the right direction. Thay is my guess.
