Hi, Grace. Pineapple has enzymes in it -- the same enzymes that are used in meat tenderizer. It is also the reason that you cannot put fresh pineapple in a gelatin mold. It's won't gel! You have to use canned pineapple for this purpose. Perhaps you have a sensitivity to the enzymes.
