Request: Hurricane Bonnie has reminded me that I HATE Spam! Help!

Misc.

Hi everyone,

Hurricane Bonnie started making me a little nervous so I went out and bought water, batteries, some canned goods, etc. Although I'm optimistic that we'll not get a direct hit from this particular storm, I'd like to get your ideas on what foods/recipes you'd recommend for a power-out situation. I grew up here in South Florida and would really prefer not to be reduced to Spam, Vienna Sausage, and similar nasty things again! (Hope I don't offend anyone - my husband does love his Spam and Vienna Sausage - I think they remind him of fishing trips with the guys.)

For example, I was thinking of some of the pasta salads I saw here at TKL, made with vegetables only and a vinaigrette-type dressing, where maybe it wouldn't suffer from a lack of constant refrigeration. What do you think of this? And hopefully you have some other ideas (beg, beg!)

Thanks for your help -

Janet
