The reason i flip the burgers when I don't have to is because I like the marks it makes on the top better than the bottom grid. Also, I find it cooks more thoroughly that way too. If I cook it for 4 minutes all together, the burgers don't cook all the way through. I like them medium rare and they are just plain rare when I cook them without flipping.

My reasons. Maybe I'm strange but I like them medium rare and find them too rare for my liking if I cook them for 4 minutes only. 4 minutes and then flip and 4 minutes again cooks them all the way through.
