What a nice message you posted. I lost my mother years ago also and my family has experienced the same problem in trying to re-create cherished memories. I guess we are both blessed in that we had childhoods that we look back on so fondly.

I'm not sure that I have the recipe you're looking for, but give me some time to review what I have and to ask a neighbor who has lots of recipes from "way back when", as she puts it.

I think the baby toast in question is spelled "zweiback".
