While at garage sales and thrift stores:

Misc.
Keep your eyes open for any circular disks with holes (to let the steam through) that would make good platforms for stacking your canning jars while you are canning. I went to our local hardware store and found them selling for $14. a circle. Came home from a thrift store this week and bought 3 of them for .20 each. I was SO HAPPY!!!! I wanted these to make my jars more stackable since some are of slightly varying heights based on who manufactured them. The Blue Book on Canning and Preserving said one could stack the jars in layers. I tried that but found my jars skiddling around a bit. These platforms will make things better. I tried them and it works very well. And am so glad I found them....because DH told me that he had planned to sneak a large circular cake pan or two out of my cabinet and was going to drill holes in them. HE THOUGHT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLEASED WITH HIS IDEA!!
