Recipe: Cherry Dumplings

CHERRY DUMPLINGS

2 cups sour cherries*
3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp. butter
FOR THE DUMPLINGS:
2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg, beaten lightly
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup flour
Pinch of salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1/2 cup milk

Cook cherries and sugar in pan for 3 minutes. Add butter.

Mix together remaining ingredients. Beat until smooth. Drop by teaspoons on cherry mixture. Cover pan and cook for 15 minutes.

*Berries or other fruit may be used in place of cherries.

Hi Betty,

I don't know if this recipe is originally from Spry, but it uses vegetable shortening so maybe it will be close to the one you're looking for. It looks yummy!
