Recipe: 50's Chip Dip Idea

I can't help with the seasonings for your Mom's dip, but since you mentioned that it had a slight sweet taste, I am wondering if the base might have been a combination of sour cream and mayonnaise. When my Mom made dip using the instant onion soup mix she always used this combination. I hope this helps.
