Recipe(tried): Fruit Cocktail Cake

My Mom made this back in the 70's. It might be what you are referring to.

FRUIT COCKTAIL CAKE

MIX TOGETHER:
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 (16 oz.) can fruit cocktail, undrained

ADD:
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
pinch of salt
vanilla ( doesn't say how much)
nuts ( doesn't say how much or what kind)

Put in greased oblong (13x9-inch) pan and top with brown sugar.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.
