Recipe: Cheese Danish Coffee Cake (Bisquick recipe, 1985)

CHEESE DANISH COFFEE CAKE

2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Cheese Filling (recipe follows)
Powdered Sugar Glaze (recipe follows)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (for topping)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Melt butter in 13x9x2-inch cake pan in oven. Rotate pan to spread butter.

Combine remaining ingredients except filling, glaze and nuts in mixing bowl. Beat vigorously 30 seconds. Spread in pan containing melted butter.

Pour Cheese Filling over cake batter and cut through mixture about 10 times.

Bake 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes.

Drizzle glaze over coffee cake and sprinkle with nuts.

CHEESE FILLING:
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Beat ingredients for the filling together until smooth.

POWDERED SUGAR GLAZE:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 to 3 tablespoons water
Combine powdered sugar with water until smooth and easy to drizzle.

High Altitude Directions (3500 to 6500 ft):
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Decrease Bisquick to 1 1/3 cups. Stir 1/3 cup all-purpose flour into Bisquick. Increase milk to 2/3 cup. Bake 18 to 23 minutes.
