Recipe: Applesauce Crunch (baked, using oats and brown sugar, 1960's)

APPLESAUCE CRUNCH

1 (16 oz) can applesauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground mace
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats, uncooked
1/3 cup white granulated sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
Cream (optional, for serving)

Mix applesauce, brown sugar, flour, nutmeg, mace, and cinnamon. Pour into greased 8-inch square pan or 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle lemon juice over top.

Mix oats, white sugar and melted butter; arrange mixture over applesauce mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until top is brown and crunchy.

Serve with or without cream.

Makes 6 servings
