Recipe: 1000 Island Cookies (using chocolate and coffee)

Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars
I saw this in my grandmother's cookbook just yesterday. Maybe this is what you are looking for. Recipe originated in Carey Ohio.

1000 ISLAND COOKIES

3 squares (1 oz each) unsweetened chocolate
1/4 cup strong coffee
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2/3 cup sour cream
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Marshmallows, cut in half

Melt chocolate with coffee; cool.

Cream shortening and brown sugar together; add egg. Add cooled coffee mixture. Alternately add sour cream with flour, baking soda and salt. Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet.

Bake in a 375 degree F oven for 12 to 15 minutes. When almost done top each cookie with 1/2 a marshmallow. Return to oven until marshmallows have melted slightly.

Ice cooled cookies with chocolate icing.

Suppose you could add the nuts like your grandmother.
Hope it's close to what you were looking for.
