Recipe: Apricot-Date Bars with Lemon Glaze (Betty Crocker cake mix box, 1960's)

2 eggs
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 (2-layer-size) package Betty Crocker yellow cake mix
1 cup cut-up dried apricots
2 cup cut-up dates
Lemon Glaze (recipe follows)
Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease and flour jelly roll pan (15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch).
Beat eggs, 1/4 cup water, butter, sugar and half of the (dry) cake mix until smooth.
Stir in remaining (dry) cake mix, the apricots and dates. Spread in pan.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly; spread with Lemon Glaze. Cool completely. Cut into (3 x 1 1/2-inch) bars.
LEMON GLAZE
Beat together until smooth:
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons milk
Makes about 30 bars
