Hello! Here are 3 recipes for you to check out. I hope one is close to what you're looking for. I found these in a collection of old community cookbook recipes but the names of the sources weren't included. This one uses more water and the least catsup:
BARBECUE SAUCE
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 lb. (1/2 cup) butler
1/2 onion, finely chopped
4 tbsp. catsup
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. vinegar
3 tsp. prepared mustard
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. lemon juice
Combine ingredients and simmer all at least 30 minutes (or longer).
This one uses the most catsup:
BARBECUE SAUCE
1 cup onions
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1 cup catsup
1 cup water
4 tbsp. sugar
5 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
4 tbsp. lemon juice
4 tbsp. vinegar
Mix all the ingredients together and simmer.
This one uses no water and more vinegar the the previous two:

1/2 cup distilled or cider vinegar
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. prepared mustard
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
Mix all ingredients and heat 10 minutes on low heal.
