BREAD STICKS
1 1/3 cups water, room temperature
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
4 cups bread flour
1 tablespoon active dry yeast (or 2 teaspoons quick rise or bread machine yeast)
Add ingredients to pan in order given. Use Dough cycle.
Place prepared dough on lightly floured surface. Let dough rest for 5 minutes.
With a lightly floured rolling pin, roll dough into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle. Square off edges.
Brush the surface with egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water). Sprinkle lightly with optional topping.*
Cut into 8-inch long by 1/4-inch wide strips. Carefully place on lightly greased baking sheet, allowing 1/2-inch between each bread stick.
Bake in 375 degree F preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
*Optional toppings: Grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese, or desired seed, herbs or spices.
