BUTTERSCOTCH MARBLE CAKE
Better Homes & Gardens magazine, 1981
1 package (2-layer-size) white cake mix
1 cup water
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 (4-serving-size) package instant butterscotch pudding mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup chocolate-flavored syrup
Sifted powdered sugar (to garnish)
Grease and flour a 10-inch fluted tube pan; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl combine cake mix, pudding mix, water, oil, and eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until mixed. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping side of bowl often.
Transfer 1 1/2 cups batter to another bowl; stir in chocolate-flavored syrup; set aside.
Pour the light batter into the prepared pan. Spoon the chocolate batter over the light batter. Using a knife, gently cut through batters to marble.
Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 55 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
Cool in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely on rack. Sprinkle cooled cake with powdered sugar.
Makes 12 servings
