Heidi, if you look at the recipe there is a tablespoon cherry juice and a tablespoon syrup in the fondant. You have drained the cherries but there is enough left that with the amount in the recipe, it will more or less dissolve the fondant. I assume with that warm of temperatures that you have air contitioning in the house. I have made them in summer with good luck. Our house is about at 78 degrees F and I have had no trouble. Refrigerated I would think it would take a long time to dissolve. If the fondant and candy is hard, as I believe you mentioned, I wonder if something has been left out of the fondant. You are using the cherries in the jar and not the candied ones, I assume. Hope you get this to work for you.
