Recipe: Choca Doodle Cookies (snickerdoodles with chocolate chips)

1 1/2 cups plus 3 tablespoons sugar, divided use
1 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup semisweet mini chocolate chips
3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for the coating mixture)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, cream 1 1/2 cups sugar and butter together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Gradually add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips; set aside.
For the coating mixture, in a small bowl, mix the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon together.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll in coating mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets; flatten with a fork.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Place cookies on racks to cool.
Makes 6 dozen cookies
