CHOCOLATE CLOVE COOKIES (Italian)
2 1/2 cups flour, divided use
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup Crisco vegetable, melted and then cooled
Frosting (recipe follows)
Mix together 2 cups flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and spices. Make a well in the center; set aside.
In separate bowl, blend together the eggs and sugar. Then add milk and melted Crisco. Mix well. Then add to the flour mixture. Mix everything up with wooden spoon. Mix in remaining 1/2 cup flour. Wrap and refrigerate overnight.
WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Form dough into 1-inch balls and place on wax paper lined baking sheets.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool completely.
Frost cookies using a small butter knife. Let frosting dry.
FROSTING
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. ground cloves

Mix ingredients together. If too stiff, add a bit water.
Makes 50 Cookies
