Recipe: Cocktail Smoked Sausage and Apples

Appetizers and Snacks
COCKTAIL SMOKED SAUSAGE AND APPLES

2 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup apple jelly
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
2 lbs. cocktail smoked sausage
3 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tbsp. flour or cornstarch
2 tbsp. warm water

In large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, saute until golden, stirring constantly.

Stir in jelly and brown sugar. Add sausage and reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring often 20 minutes.

Add apples. Partially cover pan and cook 10 to 15 minutes until apples are tender.

Combine flour and water. Stir into mixture in pan. Cook 2 to 3 minutes more until mix thickens.

Serve warm.

Hi Susan,

This isn't exactly what you asked for but I thought I'd share it in case the recipe you want doesn't show up. I'm wondering if Bisquick was used as a thickener for the sauce in the dish you had just because it was on hand. You could substitute it for the flour but I think this recipe looks tasty as-is. You can try combining everything but the flour and water in a crock pot after the onions are sauteed and cooking 4-6 hours. Or, cook everything as in the recipe up until the thickening and keep warm in the crock pot. About 10 minutes or so before serving, turn the crock pot to high and thicken the mixture with the combined flour and water, stirring frequently.

Let us know if you try it!
