Recipe: Cream Cheese Brownies (like 1970's Gold Medal recipe, another recipe)

CREAM CHEESE BROWNIES

Cream Cheese Filling (recipe follows)
FOR THE BROWNIES:
1 cup butter or margarine
4 squares unsweetened chocolate (1 oz. each)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 cup chopped nuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 13x9 inch baking pan.

Prepare cream cheese filling below; set aside.

Heat butter and chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted; cool.

Beat chocolate mixture, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in large bowl at medium speed, scraping bowl often, about 1 minute. Beat in flour on low speed, about 1/2 minute. Beat on medium speed 1 minute. Stir in nuts.

Spread half of dough in pan; spread with cream cheese filling. Gently spread remaining dough over cream cheese filling. Gently swirl through dough with wooden spoon in and over and under motion for marbled effect.

Bake 40 to 45 minutes. Cool and cut in bars.

CREAM CHEESE FILLING

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Beat all in a bowl about 2 minutes.
