Recipe(tried): Flint Coney Island Hot Dog Sauce - A couple of comments
Toppings - Sauces and GraviesI've made this recipe a few times. It was so very close. Yes, as somebody commented above, it is closer to Flint's Original (used to be downtown) than Angelo's. I made one change to the recipe by adding about a tablespoon of cumin. Most importantly; The final results must be cooled overnight and reheated, allowing the flavors to merge.
Koegle's is the best viennas to use. Unfortunately quality natural casing hotdogs are almost non-existant in this part of the world. I finally found that Shwans (yellow delivery trucks) has very good quality natural casing hotdogs on a sesonal basis and are considerably less expensive than ordering Koegle's online. Of course, the best solution is to invite friends and relatives from Flint to visit as long as they bring as much Koegle's as they can. :)
