FLINT CONEY ISLAND HOT DOG SAUCE / ANGELO'S SAUCE
I found this on the web somewhere awhile ago. It said it was "the original Flint coney island sauce. That means to all us old Flint people either Palace, or Angelos. I have made it several times, and it is almost as good as being home. As close as one can get when they can't get the real thing. It makes quite a bit, but I generally freeze it in smaller batches to use as needed. It freezes fairly well. Enjoy !
1 TBSP butter
1 TBSP Margarine
1 1/2 lb LEAN Ground Beef
2 medium onions, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
3 TBSP Chili Powder
1 TBSP Prepared mustard
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 (6 oz) can of water
13 to 16 Cheap skinless hot dogs
Salt and pepper to taste
DO NOT brown ground beef before using. Combine ALL ingred except hot dogs and simmer until thick. Grind the hot dogs (or chop in food processor) stir in and cook 15 minutes longer.
Use over GOOD casing hot dogs with chopped onion and mustard. The big secret in this recipe is the cheap ground hot dogd. (Hint: Back home, I still used the Koegels's, just the skinless ones)
Let me know if you like this. Like I said, it is as close to Angelo's as I have ever found. Try it.
