Recipe: Fudgie Scotch Ring

Misc.
Fudgie Scotch Ring
Source: rec.food.baking/Sarah Fidelibus

This is absolutely the best fudge in the world. My mom's been making it as long as I can remember, and Christmas just isn't Christmas without it. The two kinds of chips make it so rich and gooey...Mmmmmm...
Makes about 36 slices

1 cup (1 6-oz bag) semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 cup (1 6-oz bag) butterscotch morsels
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup walnut halves (I usually leave these out)

1. Melt the chocolate and butterscotch chips w/ sweetened condensed milk in top of double boiler. Stir occasionally till morsels melt and mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat; add chopped walnuts and vanilla. Blend well. Chill for about one hour till mixture thickens. Line bottom of 9-inch pie pan w/ a 12" square of foil. Place 3/4 cup walnut halves in bottom of pan, forming a 2-inch wide flat ring.

2. Spoon chocolate mixture in small mounds on top of nuts to form a ring (wreathe). Decorate with remaining nuts. Add maraschino cherries if desired (on top, to look like wreathe).

3. Chill in refrigerator until firm enough to slice. Cut into 1/2-inch slices. Store uneaten fudge in refrigerator.
