Recipe: Fudgy Saucepan Brownies (Gold Medal, 1983)

FUDGY SAUCEPAN BROWNIES

1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 (12 ounces) package semisweet chocolate chips
1 2/3 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease rectangular pan, l3x9x2 inches.

Heat margarine and chocolate chips in 3-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted. Stir in remaining ingredients except nuts until smooth; stir in nuts. Spread in pan.

Bake until center is set, about 30 minutes; cool completely.

Cut into bars, about 2 x 1 1/2 inches. Store tightly covered.

Makes 36 brownies
