HAWAIIAN BROWNIES
3 squares (1 oz. each) Hershey's unsweetened baking chocolate
1cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs
1 1/2 cup unsifted, all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 (15 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained well
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Melt baking chocolate in the top of a double boiler over hot (NOT boiling) water.
Cream butter or margarine, sugar and vanilla in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well.
In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon; blend into creamed mixture.
Press excess moisture from pineapple. Stir pineapple into 1 1/3 cup of the batter; set aside. Blend melted baking chocolate into remaining batter. Stir in nuts. Spread chocolate batter into a greased 9x13-inch pan. Spread pineapple mixture evenly over top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool completely in pan.
Frost with vanilla frosting. Cut into squares.
VANILLA FROSTING
1cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
1 to 2 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Combine all ingredients in small mixing bowl. Beat until spreading consistency.
Makes 2 dozen
