Recipe(tried): Here Is The Best Recipe

Misc.

Here is my recipe that I got from a NYC newspaper years ago. I think it was from an article by Bert Greene and it has been a family favorite ever since. I make them every year in November and everyone (friends and family across the country) ask for some every year:

Risa's Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies
Makes a lot

2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cloves, allspice and nutmeg
1 c. quick cooking oatmeal
1-1/2 c. unsalted butter, soft*
1 c. each dark brown sugar and granulated sugar
1 c. unsweetened pumpkin puree
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 c. chopped pecans

Sift together the flour, baking soda, and spices, then mix in the oatmeal.
Set aside.

In a large bowl of an electric mixer or a food processor, cream the butter
and then beat in the sugars, pumpkin puree, vanilla extract and egg.

On low speed (if using mixer), add the flour-oats mixture.

Stir in the chocolate chips and pecans, mixing well.

Chill the dough for 1 hour. Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons on
well-greased cookie sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake each sheet on the middle level of a preheated 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes until lightly browned.

Remove immediately to cooking racks to cool completely. Store in an airtight
container at room temperature (they also freeze quite well.)

* You can also use Crisco and they come out really well. Last year, I used
1/2 Crisco and half butter and they came out the best ever (I've been making them for about 10 years.)
