ITALIAN KNOT COOKIES
FOR THE COOKIES:
1 lb. butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
8 eggs, beaten
8 cups flour
8 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 bottle anise
FOR THE ICING:
1 (1 lb) box powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 bottle anise
1 small bottle decorative beads (for decorating)
TO MAKE THE COOKIES:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease baking sheets.
Cream butter, sugar, and eggs together.
Stir together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Stir in anise.
For each cookie, roll a piece of dough between your fingers to form a rope and twist into a knot. Place on prepared baking sheets.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes or until light brown.
TO MAKE THE ICING:
Mix icing ingredients together and spoon over cookies; sprinkle on beads.
