Recipe(tried): Italian Wine and Cheese Party Ideas for Donna
Holidays, Celebrations Hi Donna,
Wine and cheese parties are always fun and I love the theme idea. Here are a few ideas I thought of, I'm not sure how in depth you are going to get with the cheese part...
Fontina - My favorite thing to do with this is grate it and buy a nice baguette loaf. Cut the loaf into about 1/2" slices, butter them and then they are dipped into the cheese. I would probably pair this cheese with a chianti- Ruffino is one of my favorites.
Mozzarella - I thought a neat thing to do with this would be to get some buffalo mozzarella and serve it w/ sliced tomatoes, fresh basil & drizzled w/ evo, s & p. Might also be neat to buy some grape tomatoes instead and put one of each on toothpicks served the same way. I'd pick a light to medium white with this. Your pinot grigio would be good.
Gorgonzola - Great when brought to room temperature and spread on some nice crusty Italian bread...same wines would work with this.
Another fun thing would be to just choose three different cheeses like the fontina, gorgonzola and maybe a pecorino and put on a big wooden board (cheese board if you have one) and pile sliced italian bread on it for spreading.
Hope this gives you some ideas! Have fun!
