Recipe(tried): Kettle Korn

Misc.

I tried searching the web for an exact recipe for you but couldn't find one, but you can buy a kettle korn maker for only about $18,000! LOL

I've been trying to remember the instructions that were given to me at the Florida State Fair a few years back. I made it a few times back then but not since. I'm pretty sure they use a special popping corn that produces a large fluffy popped corn but I just used regular yellow popping corn.

First of all of course they make it in an open copper kettle, stirring constantly. I've made it on the stove and in a popcorn maker. However you do it, it needs to be stirred constantly. A Stir-Crazy electric popper would work great (I didn't have one) or one of those ones for the stove top that has a stirring crank. Be careful, it gets very hot, I got a burn on my arm from a flying kernal.

I am pretty sure they told me to use peanut oil. Use about 1/3 cup of oil and 3-4 Tbsp. of granulated sugar. Mix together and add about 1/4 cup of popcorn. I'm guessing on the amounts. You might want to try the quantities suggested on the popcorn bag for the oil and popcorn and then add the 3-4 Tbsp. of sugar. Stir constantly until popping. Do not add salt or butter.

I'll keep looking for a more exact recipe, but in the meantime I hope this works for you.
