Recipe: Molasses Crinkles (updated 10-26-19)

MOLASSES CRINKLES

1 cup brown sugar (packed)
3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
White granulated sugar (for dipping tops)
Water

Mix first 4 ingredients; stir in remaining ingredients. Chill dough in refrigerator 2-4 hours.

WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Roll dough into balls - the size of large walnuts; dip tops in sugar. Place, sugared-side-up, 3-inches apart, on greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle each with 2 or 3 drops of water.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 10-12 minutes.

Makes 4 dozen cookies
