CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1/2 cup soft shortening
1 cup Carnation evaporated milk
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 cup chocolate chips (more if you like)
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Browned Butter Frosting (recipe follows)
Cream together the brown sugar, white sugar and shortening. Mix in well the evaporated milk, eggs and vanilla.
Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; stir into wet mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Chill 2 hours or overnight.
WHEN READY TO BAKE:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease baking sheets.
Drop by spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets.
Bake at 375 degrees, 10 minutes or until done. Place cookies on wire rack to cool. Frost cooled cookies.
BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 or 2 tablespoons hot water
Melt butter until golden brown. Blend in powdered sugar and vanilla. Stir in 1 or 2 tablespoons hot water until icing spreads smoothly.

I found a recipe in my files that fits your description but there is no mention of the source. I hope this is it! One question for you - the recipe didn't say how to place them on the cookie sheets. I added to drop by spoonfuls - is that correct or is the dough shaped into balls?
