Recipe: Mormor's Holiday Buns (with raisin, maraschino cherry, and walnut filling)
Breads - Breakfast BreadsHello Patricia,
I found this recipe but have never tried it. It makes a large quantity so it's a lot of ingredients to use as an experiment. Hopefully it will look familiar to you and with a little substitution will turn out like your old recipe (coconut for the raisins and walnuts maybe). Please let us know if you give it a try!

MORMOR'S HOLIDAY BUNS
4 cups milk
1 lb. butter
4 to 5 cups sugar
2 tbsp. salt
Approximately 16 cups flour
8 eggs, beaten
6 pkg. yeast
2 cups lukewarm water
1 tablespoon sugar
Melted butter
Cinnamon sugar
1 1/4 lb. raisins
1 1/4 lb. walnuts, chopped
2 lb. maraschino cherries, chopped
Confectioners' sugar
Scald milk and butter.
Stir sugar and salt into flour. Add milk mixture and eggs.
Dissolve yeast in 2 cups lukewarm water and 1 tablespoon sugar, then add to above mixture. Work in sufficient flour to turn out onto well-floured board. Knead until dough doesn't take up flour. Raise until doubled.
Punch down. Cut out approximately 1/8 to 1/10 dough. Roll into a ball, then flatten into a rectangle with a roller.
Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, raisins, walnuts and cherries. Roll up into a cylinder, push edges together. Slice into 1-inch thick pieces. Place on lightly greased baking sheets and let raise again.
Bake in preheated 350 degree F oven until brown, 10-12 minutes.
Brush with melted butter and ice with confectioners' sugar/milk paste.
