Recipe(tried): Pig Roast for 100
Holidays, CelebrationsWe do pig roasts for weddings, graduations, etc. They are always a big hit and fairly inexpensive as long as you can find somewhere to rent the pig roaster (the best ones are on wheels with an electric spit and we also use charcoal for that flavor of a bbq) and somewhere to order a pig (need a week to order so they can dress it out).
I just did my nephew's wedding and for the menu I did it fairly inexpensive. I got a 120lb pig at $1.30lb and the roaster was $75.00 for the weekend. We did side dishes to complement the pig and we did it southern style as most of our family is from the south. This was for 100 people and including all the sodas I spent less than $500.00.
I went to Gordons food service (or Sams or Costco) and got the large cans of yams, which I doctored with Karo syrup, cinnamon and brown sugar; large cans of whole kernel corn, large cans of pork and beans, which I also doctored. I made a hash brown bake (large cut hash browns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream and cheddar cheese) Also served rolls with packets of butter (from Gordons) and made cornbread from those jiffy mixes.
Everyone loved it. Hope this proves useful and have a great celebration!!!
