Here is our favorite meatball recipe.

Piquant Meatballs

3/4 lb ground beef
1/4 lb ground pork sausage
3/4 cup oatmeal (quick cooking)
1/2 cup milk
few dashes tabasco
1 TBSP Worcestershire
1/4 cup chopped water chestnuts
1/2 tsp onion salt
1/2 tsp garlic salt
Piquant Sauce (recipe follows)

Combine all ingredients and shape into 4 dozen small balls. Place on rack on broiler pan and bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain on paper towels and add to piquant sauce. Simmer for 30 minutes on stove or chafing dish.

Piquant Sauce:
Combine 1 cup sugar, 3/4 cup EACH cider vinegar and water, 1 tsp paprika, and 1/2 tsp salt in a large skillet. Cook 5 minutes stirring occasionally. Add 2 tsp cornstarch blended with 1 TBSP cold water. Cook stirring until slightly thickened. This may be made ahead and frozen, just re-heat and serve. (I freeze the meatballs and sauce separately) Enjoy!! Dena in Oregon
