Recipe: Raised Doughnut Recipes

Mom's Best Raised Doughnuts:
4 1/4 C. Sifted Flour 1/8 tsp. mace
3/4 C. Milk 1/4 C. warm water
1/3 C. Sugar 1 Pkg. Active Dry Yeast
1 tsp.Salt 1 tsp. Nutmeg
1/8 tsp. Cinnamon 1/3 C. Soft Shortening
1 tsp. Vanilla 2 Eggs
Sift Flour: measure, Scald Milk. Add sugar and salt. Cool
to lukewarm. Measure warm water into mixingbowl. Sprinkle
yeast into water. Stir unil dissolved. Add mild mixture,
2 C. of the flour, and spices. Beat well. Stir in Shortening;
then eggs.
Add remaining flour, kneading in the last portion on a
lightly floured surface. Place in greased bowl, turning once
to grease top surface. Let rise in a warm place until double
in bulk (about 1 hour)
Turn out on lightly floured board. Roll out dough 1/3" thick
Cut with lightly floured doughnut cutter. Remove trimming
and form into a ball. When risen to double in bulk, roll out
and cut. Let all cut doughnuts rise in oil until very light.
Sugar if desired...Enjoy!
