Recipe(tried): Rocky Mountain White Sausage Gravy and Biscuits
Breakfast and BrunchHi Melissa,
Here is a recipe that I'm sure your boyfriend will like. I like Jimmy Dean's sausage best if it is available in Canada, if not a good breakfast sausage is needed for the gravy flavor he craves over a good southern style butter milk biscuit. Also this recipe feeds 8-10 people. Enjoy, I have been feeding my family this recipe for 30+ years.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN WHITE SAUSAGE GRAVY AND BISCUITS
(The Man Pleaser)
Flour
Milk
1 lb. - Jimmy Dean hot divided in half (or use all of both for large groups)
1 lb. - Jimmy Dean regular or sage sausage divided in half
Salt and pepper
2 cans Butter milk southern style biscuits
Heat oven for biscuits
1) In a large 12 inch cast iron skillet lightly brown 1/2 of the hot and 1/2 of the regular sausage and crumble it. Drain the grease off or soak it up with a paper towel. (Turn the fire off first though.)
2) Put biscuits in oven. (See the breads and dough section for Mountain Man biscuits)
3) Add enough flour to coat all the meat well (3-4 TABLESPOONS) stirring flour in, everything should look dry now. Cook while stirring constantly for a couple of minutes to just cook the flour a little so it won't taste floury.
4) Turn the fire back on to med. high and begin adding milk into sausage about 1/2 inch below top stirring well and constantly. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a slow boil stirring constantly for 2 minutes then reduce heat to low. If gravy is too thick add a little milk at a time. If it is to thin mix two tablespoons of flour with cold milk in a measuring cup and stir well to mix completely then stir that into your gravy until desired thickness is achieved.
Served with fried potatoes or grits and/or sausage patties on the side with O.J.
For a hearty man breakfast top the biscuits with a sausage patty and scrambled eggs first then ladle on the gravy.
