Recipe: Self-Fulfilling Cake (using cake batter cooked with milk for the filling)

AUNT HOLLIE'S SELF-FULFILLING CAKE

Batter for a 2-layer cake
1 cup milk
Frosting or glaze (as desired)

Mix cake batter as usual. Measure 1/4 cup of the raw batter; set aside. Divide remaining batter between 8- or 9-inch round cake pans.

Bake as usual. Remove from pans and cool on a rack.

In a heavy saucepan, whisk reserved batter into milk. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Pour into a shallow bowl; place plastic wrap directly on the surface. Let cool.

Spread cooled filling between cooled cake layers. Glaze or frost as usual.

Makes 2 cake layers and 1 1/4 cups filling
