Recipe: Skillet Macaroni and Beef (using ground beef, 1970's)

Main Dishes - Pasta, Sauces
SKILLET MACARONI AND BEEF

1 1/2 lb. ground beef
2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni or salad macaroni (8 oz)
1/2 cup minced onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 or 2 tablespoons shortening (optional, as needed)
1 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1 to 1 1/2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

Cook beef in large skillet until it loses its redness. Remove beef from skillet leaving drippings.

Cook (dry) macaroni, onion and green pepper in fat in skillet until macaroni is yellow. If meat fat is not sufficient to prevent sticking add a tablespoon or two of shortening.

Return browned beef to skillet along with remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 25 minutes or until macaroni is cooked to suit your taste.
