I have an old Good Housekeeping cookbook, but not quite old enough. However, with some searching, I did find a couple of recipes. One with eggs and one without. I thought perhaps you might be able to work with one of them if you can't find your favorite.
Slice and Bake Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups quick-cook oatmeal
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
Cream butter and sugar. Add water and vanilla, mixing well. Combine the dry ingredients and add to the creamed mixture. Chill for 30 minutes.
Shape into two 1-1/2 inch rolls and wrap tightly in waxed paper. Chill for 2 hours or until firm.
Cut into 1/2-inch slices. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Bake in a 375 degree preheated oven for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen. Refrigerator Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) Cream shortening and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt and add to the egg mixture. Stir in oatmeal and nuts.
Shape into rolls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and chill.
Slice, place on lightly greased baking sheets and bake at 375 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
