Recipe: Sloppy Joe Casserole

SLOPPY JOE CASSEROLE

1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium bell pepper, chopped
1 (29 oz) can stewed tomatoes, undrained
1 cup ketchup
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
3 tbsp packed brown sugar
2 tbsp cider vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp red pepper sauce (Tabasco)
1/4 tsp pepper
1 (16 oz) pkg ziti pasta, uncooked
1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish.

Cook beef, onion, and bell pepper in Dutch oven over medium heat, stirring frequently, until beef is brown; drain.

Stir in remaining ingredients except pasta and cheese. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook and drain pasta as directed on package; drain. Stir pasta into beef mixture; spoon into baking dish. Sprinkle with cheese.

Bake uncovered about 15 minutes or until mixture is hot and cheese is melted.
