SNICKERDOODLES
Snickerdoodles are an unfussy sugar cookie with a crackled top, an extra dollop of cinnamon sugar and a terrific name.
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, room temperature
3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease baking sheets.
Combine flour, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In large bowl, beat butter with 3/4 cup sugar until light. Beat in egg and vanilla, Stir in dry ingredients, mixing to blend thoroughly.
In small bowl combine remaining 2 tbsp sugar and cinnamon. Pinch off pieces of dough and roll between palms of hands into 1 inch balls. Roll each ball in sugar mixture and place on prepared baking sheets.
Bake about 15 minutes or until golden. Cool on baking sheet 1 minute. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
Makes about 36
