Recipe(tried): Soft Sugar Cookies

Here's another favorite recipe that can be dropped or rolled and makes a large batch.

Soft Sugar Cookies

2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Scant teaspoon salt
5 cups flour
1 cup sweet milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Cream together shortening and sugar.
Add beaten eggs and mix well.
Combine dry ingredients.
Add 1/2 of the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.
Stir in the milk and vanilla.
Add the remaining dry ingredients and mix well.
Cookies may be dropped or rolled 1/4" thick.
Bake on lightly greased baking sheets at 350F until lightly browned.
