These are two very old recipes dating back to when I was married in 1955. I hope one of these is what you are looking for. They are so good...
Spritz
1 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. almond extract
2 1/4 cups flour, sifted
Cream shortening, adding sugar gradually. Add egg unbeaten, beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients and extract. Fill cookie press and form on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375F 10-12 min. Makes 5 dozen.
Spritz Cookies
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. almond or vanilla extract
1 egg
Heat oven to 400F. Mix margarine (or butter) and sugar. Mix in remaining ingredients. Place dough in cookie press; form desired shapes on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until set but not brown, 6-9 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
For Chocolate Spritz: Stir in 2 ounces melted unsweetened chocolate (cooled) into margarine mixture.
Makes about 5 dozen cookies
Source: Betty Crocker
NOTES: Can use candied cherries, using half a cherry pressed into the middle of cookie before baking.
