Recipe(tried): Some coffee information for Pat - Hollywood, FL

Beverages
Hi Pat:

I understand that you want to make good coffee for your guest. Your question is a good one!

The usual measurements for perculated coffee is two (2) level measuring tablespoons of coffee per five (5) ounces of hot water. Using this coffee to water ratio brews a full strength cup, to which you can add hot water if the taste is too strong. Remember, you can always make coffee weaker by adding hot water to your cup, but you can't make it any stronger once its brewed.

Many folks also prefer to use fresh-ground coffee. That is not, however a "requirement." I am living in Starbucks land (Seattle) **giggle, wink, wink** I grind my coffee beans before each pot of coffee. Having fresh ground coffee beans can greatly improve the taste of coffee. I personally would not go out and buy a coffee grinder for one guest, however. If you have not purchased your coffee grounds already, you might go to your grocery and buy beans that you can grind on site, OR look for the little vacuum-packed pre-ground containers. By buying a little packet, you would not have a large amount of coffee to store after your guest leaves.

If you ever decide to replace your perculator, many folks believe that the process of perculating coffee over extracts your brew. Cone drip is fine, but a paper filter can impart some flavor to your coffee.

Press pot coffee is considered to be very good coffee because its direct infusion seems to produce fuller flavor. In addition, press pot coffee allows the dissolved coffee solids to remain in the brew, which also contributes to flavor.

I hope this helps, Pat. AND I hope you have a nice time with your guest.
