Recipe: Spaghetti Sauce Seasoning Mix and Spaghetti Sauce
Herbs and SpicesSPAGHETTI SAUCE SEASONING MIX
Makes about 1 1/2 cups
"You can cut the time it takes to make spaghetti sauce by keeping this mix on hand. And it's better for you than sodium-laden store bought brands."
1/2 cup onion flakes
1/2 cup parsley flakes
2 tablespoons dried oregano, crumbled
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon each of dried thyme and basil, crumbled
2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoons garlic flakes
4 large bay leaves, crumbled fine.
Place all the ingredients in a 1 pint jar, cover tightly and shake well to mix. store in a cool,dark dry place for up to 2 months.
SPAGHETTI SAUCE
Servings: 4
2 cans (28 oz each) low sodium tomatoes, drained and chopped
1 can (6 oz) low sodium tomato paste
1 cup water
1/2 cup of Spaghetti Sauce Seasoning Mix.
Hot cooked spaghetti or other pasta
In a medium sized heavy saucepan over moderate heat, mix together tomatoes, tomato paste, and 1 cup water. Stir in Spaghetti Sauce Seasoning Mix. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Spoon over spaghetti and other pasta.
VARIATION:
FOR SPAGHETTI SAUCE WITH MEAT:
Brown 1 pound of very lean ground beef or turkey and drain off any fat before adding the other ingredients and proceeding as directed.
