Recipe(tried): Steel Cut Oats made easy!! (using a rice cooker)
Breakfast and BrunchFor those of you who LOVE steel cut oats but cannot stand 1) toiling over the stove to stir so that the bottom of your pan doesn't develop a crust or 2) the unpredictability of the microwave method... this is for you!
I just tried this... it may not be novel, but I haven't read about it before.
USE YOUR RICE STEAMER!
If you have one, great.... if you don't, get one!
1 cup steel cut oats
2 1/2 cups water
Put it in the reservoir where you would normally cook the rice. Fill the water reservoir to the level you would normally use for rice. Steam for 45-50 minutes.
Although it is not a fast as the microwave, I have absolutely NO cleanup other than the steamer bowl. In the microwave, I almost always have a blowout! Also, you can start breakfast in the morning and walk away... that's nice.
Oh... I add raisins, whole almonds, sugar free syrup and "I can't believe it's not butter" spray. MMmmmmmm.
