SWEDISH APPLE KUCHEN SQUARES
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp, baking powder
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups apples, pared and thinly sliced (or fresh peaches, peeled and thinly sliced)
3/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp sugar, divided use
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 cup dairy sour cream
2 egg yolks
Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut margarine into the flour or mix in very quickly with an electric beater until flakes are very small.
Press mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, building up the edges 1/4 all around. Cover with thinly sliced apples, overlapping in several rows.
Mix 3/4 cup sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle over the apples.
Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Mix sour cream, egg yolks and remaining 2 tablespoons sugar. Cover apples with this mixture.
Bake for 30-35 minutes more. Can be eaten hot or cool.
