Recipe(tried): Toad in the Hole
Misc. TOAD IN THE HOLE
QUANTITY 2
INGREDIENTS
1/2 c flour
1 c milk
6 breakfast sausages
1 egg
1 tbls melted butter
pinch salt
TOOLS
2 shallow casseroles*
PREHEAT 425
DIRECTIONS
Mix flour & salt in large bowl
add egg, milk & melted butter to make batter
arrange sausages in casserole
bake at 425 for 10 minutes
remove from the oven,
pour batter over the sausages
and bake another 30 minutes
reduce the temperature to 400
and bake for a further 15-20 minutes.
it should remain fairly soft & moist in the center.
serve immediately
(I have been making this for 1 these days, using half of everything except the egg, but it's not quite right. It should have the texture of a popover. Still tweaking. If you only need 1 serving, use 3 sausages and make the same batter, put the excess in a popover cup and bake.)
* I keep casseroles around that are one serving size.
Shallow ones that are 10-12 oz are good for toad in the hole.
If doing all 6 sausages in the same dish, you may want to use something about the size of an 8x8 cake pan.
experiment with the ones you have instead of buying new ones.
