Recipe: Turkey Boiled Before Roasting

Main Dishes - Chicken, Poultry

Hi Gary,

I've never tried this, but here's a newsgroup post with instructions. In regards to your question about how to use the stock afterward - save it for making soup with the turkey leftovers (if there's more than you want, boil it down to reduce it).

Happy Holiday Cooking,

Betsy

CAUTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN (NOTE FROM BETSY): Be certain your pot can accomodate the turkey and the water. Before bringing the water to a boil, fill the pot with water with the turkey in it; remove the turkey, then follow the recipe as below. Also, be very careful removing the turkey from the hot water (I suggest moving the pot into your sink for the removal steps).

Here is a way for you to have the moistest, juiciest turkey you ever had. Get a 8 to 10qt. stock pot. Fill with water. Put it on the stove and if you want to add some onions, celery or other seasonings , please do. Bring the water to a boil. Take your thawed turkey by the legs and place in the water for approx. 10-15min. Remove the bird and turn off the heat. When the water stops boiling, place the bird into the water and place the lid on the pot. In approx. 25-30min., remove the turkey and roast it as you would normaly would. I promise this method will make your turkey the best ever.
